{"id":2825,"date":"2015-04-25T18:41:22","date_gmt":"2015-04-25T18:41:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peacepalsinternational.org\/?p=2825"},"modified":"2017-03-09T18:45:08","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T18:45:08","slug":"greater-victoria-peace-intercultural-celebrations-host-ambassador-of-peace-art-exhibition-victoria-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peacepalsinternational.org\/es\/greater-victoria-peace-intercultural-celebrations-host-ambassador-of-peace-art-exhibition-victoria-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"[:en]Greater Victoria Peace &#038; Intercultural Celebrations Host Ambassador of Peace Art Exhibition &#8211; Victoria &#8211; CANADA[:]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[:en]<\/p>\n<p>April-2015<\/p>\n<p>This year <a href=\"http:\/\/yyjpeace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greater Victoria Peace and Intercultural Celebrations<\/a> approached Jules Lamore of Peace Pals International with an application to host the 2015 Ambassador of Peace Art Exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The children&#8217;s artwork from the exhibit has inspired our community and we are enjoying expanding our number of exhibits in unique ways.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u00a0Our first exhibit was held on April 25th &amp; 26th at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/creativelyunited.org\/festival\" target=\"_blank\">Fourth Annual Creatively United for the Planet Earth Week Festival<\/a> hosted by<a href=\"http:\/\/creativelyunited.org\/\">\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/creativelyunited.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u200bCreatively United for the Planet<\/a>.\u00a0 We had a unique opportunity to display the artwork in the storefront windows along a pathway in a beautiful three- acre garden at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.englishinn.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">English Inn<\/a>\u00a0 located in one of our historical communities called\u00a0Esquimalt.\u00a0 The art exhibition became a talking point with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.departmentofpeace.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Peace Initiative<\/a> and local Sierra Club. Shortly after displaying the children\u2019s artwork, it was noticed that T-shirts that had been donated to the table as a fundraiser\u00a0had the same peace message, May Peace Prevail on Earth! \u00a0The T-shirts were donated\u00a0by one of our well-known early peace pioneers, Louise Taylor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6340\" src=\"http:\/\/worldpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015-04-15-13.38.30-e1453569115629.jpg\" alt=\"2015-04-15 13.38.30\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6342 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/worldpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20150425_113357-e1453569178279.jpg\" alt=\"20150425_113357\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u200bOur second exhibit was actually\u00a0a talking circle with a group of 4<sup>th<\/sup> grade students at <a href=\"http:\/\/brentwood.sd63.bc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brentwood Bay Elementary<\/a> in our Greater Victoria Community of Central Saanich. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldchildrenspeaceandnaturesummit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The World Children&#8217;s Summit on Peace and Nature <\/a>held four workshops with four classes in one day.\u00a0\u200bThe workshop topics were on: \u00a0Storytelling, Nature Photography, Music with the\u00a0Ukulele\u00a0and Contemplation with the Labyrinth.\u00a0 As part of the Labyrinth Workshop the children began a conversation about values.\u00a0 This was introduced with the amazing artwork from children around the world that each piece of artwork had a different value focus.\u00a0 The children chose artwork that was meaningful to them to introduce as we went around our circle.\u00a0 They shared the country, the child&#8217;s name and the values they recognized.\u00a0 It started a lively conversation!\u00a0 The children then made up their own list of values identifying what was important to them in their classroom!\u00a0 At the end of the day we shared what we experienced in our workshop with the other three classes by creating\u00a0a simple heart shaped labyrinth.\u00a0 We let the children choose one piece of artwork to walk with in\u200bto the center of the labyrinth, while reflecting on the artwork they chose.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bReaching the center they put their artwork into the center heart!\u00a0 It was stunning\u200b to see eighty-six children walking through the labyrinth quietly!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6344\" src=\"http:\/\/worldpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015-05-28-14.26.20-e1453569335110.jpg\" alt=\"2015-05-28 14.26.20\" width=\"400\" height=\"346\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For the month of June our <a href=\"https:\/\/gvpl.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">Greater Victoria Public Library<\/span> <\/a>Central Branch is displaying The\u00a0Ambassador\u00a0of Peace Art Exhibit to celebrate June&#8217;s World Refugee Day!\u00a0 They\u00a0have created a beautiful display as you enter the Children&#8217;s area of their Library.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6345\" src=\"http:\/\/worldpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2015-06-16-11.12.03-e1453569471306.jpg\" alt=\"2015-06-16 11.12.03\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Ambassador\u00a0of Peace is currently scheduled to be displayed at a storefront gallery at the <a href=\"http:\/\/fernwoodnrg.ca\/neighbourhood\/fernwood-community-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">Fernwood Community Center<\/span><\/a> the\u00a0August 27th until September 13th, &#8217;15.\u00a0 This display will compliment the host display called, <a href=\"http:\/\/puppetsforpeace.org\/\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00ab<\/span><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/puppetsforpeace.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s3\">Puppets for Peace<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.\u00bb<\/span> <\/a>\u00a0A unique creative project combining another form of art and celebration! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">September 13th will kick off Greater Victoria &#8216;s\u00a02nd Annual Peace Week Project with a <a href=\"http:\/\/puppetsforpeace.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">Puppets for Peace Festival<\/span>.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0This is a calendar of peace themed events to nurture a communities focus of attention on peace. \u00a0 A grassroots campaign to support local peace events with a vision of local schools, organizations and businesses hosting their own events with a willingness to talk about it!\u00a0 The grand event for September 21st this year will be hosted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/worldchildrenspeaceandnaturesummit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">World Children&#8217;s Summit on Peace and Nature.<\/span><\/a> \u00a0Plans are for this to be Victoria&#8217;s final\u00a0Ambassador\u00a0of Peace Exhibit.\u00a0 The World\u00a0Summit is planning to host guest speakers and entertainment based upon the theme of their workshops!
