In September 2009, Agenda for Community Development\u00a0carried out the inauguration of Peace and Character Education Project and Presentation of Peace Pole<\/strong> in Rite Heritage Montessori School, Agbado Crossing area of Lagos State, Nigeria. The purpose of the Peace and Character Education Project is to encourage communication between schools to advance policies and activities promoting peaceful coexistence and academic integrity as a character education strategy in public or private schools.<\/p>\n

With over sixty students in attendance, the program started with prayers said in both the Christianity and Islamic ways.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This was followed immediately with a welcome address by Olaitan Ibiyemi – a Peace Pals Coordinator <\/strong>and the convener of the event.\u00a0 He reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence and urged the children in attendance to pray for peace in locations where there are wars and instability across the world.\u00a0So on October 5, 2009, AFCODE\u00a0regenerated\u00a0the potential\u00a0of our Peace Pals <\/strong>members in Toris School in\u00a0carrying out\u00a0environmental sanitation and awareness campaign programs to achieve\u00a0the goal. Under\u00a0this\u00a0plan, AFCODE mobilized student members of Peace Pals Club in Toris School to engage in a three hour environmental sanitation exercises around the community.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>AFCODE is planning hold\u00a0training\u00a0sessions and symposia\u00a0across various communities.\u00a0 The training program shall\u00a0 encourage\u00a0\u00a0 children to\u00a0\u00a0 nurture\u00a0 the spirit of love , harmony and\u00a0 appreciation\u00a0 while\u00a0 facilitating\u00a0 a\u00a0 greater personal awareness\u00a0 of\u00a0 governance\u00a0 and altruism.<\/p>\n

We foster\u00a0\u00a0 a sense of security by letting children know\u00a0\u00a0 that they are\u00a0\u00a0 always welcome.\u00a0 A sense of security will arise when children know that they have\u00a0\u00a0 a place\u00a0to\u00a0go whenever\u00a0they need help.\u00a0 This sense of\u00a0security shall encourage\u00a0children to grow\u00a0to\u00a0their\u00a0full potential. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
